The Standard, Singapore Throws a Dreamy Debut

The Standard, Singapore made a bold entrance with a surreal garden party of art, performance and playful glamor—officially marking its arrival in the Lion City.

The grand opening of The Standard, Singapore on June 5 was nothing short of surreal. A fever dream of art, performance and irreverent glamour, the private party marked the official arrival of the brand’s signature playfulness in the Lion City—with plenty of champagne to match. From the city’s creative elite to international names in fashion, music and media, the guest list was as stylishly eclectic as the night itself.

The night began with signature cocktails and elegant bites at Café Standard, soundtracked by a curated mix that set the tone for the evening ahead. Guests wandered freely through the hotel’s tiered garden, which had been transformed into a lush dreamlike fantasy called Dreamscape—a large-scale living installation by artist Eric Tobua, designed in collaboration with The Standard’s own creative team. Known for blending nature, surrealism and performance, Tobua brought his vision to life with a riot of tropical flora, camouflaged characters and strange beautiful creatures peeking out from the foliage.

There was a pianist disguised as a leafy bush, live flower dancers weaving through the crowd and a white snail (yes, really) gliding past orchids and onlookers alike. In the heart of it all: the unveiling of Impossible Blooms, a bold large-scale flower sculpture by Singaporean artist Samuel Xun. Commissioned by The Standard, the piece plays with themes of life, blooming and transformation. Costumed dancers emerged from the artwork like spirits, blurring the lines between sculpture and performance, art and life.

Elsewhere, a sculptural waterfall covered in bright tropical plants turned a corner of the garden into a full sensory moment, while a glowing Orange Grove Walkway—a nod to the hotel’s address—twisted its way through a trail of lit-up fruit and branches. Everything invited pause, play and exploration. Every corner held a surprise.

As night fell, the party crescendoed poolside, where the calm water transformed into a reflective dreamscape. Synchronized swimmers—decked out as frogs and lotus blossoms—danced across the surface, while Singaporean soprano Felicia Teo stunned with a live opera performance in a glowing tiger lily gown, her voice echoing through the garden and into the stars.

The guest list was no less captivating. Singapore’s fashion scene turned out in force, with Harry Halim and Yu Masui spotted among the crowd. Music heavyweights like Joe Flizzow, Yung Raja and lullaboy mingled with screen stars like Constance Lau, David Eung Hao and Yang Yan. It was an eclectic, electric mix—exactly the kind of crowd The Standard tends to attract.

“We are proud to introduce The Standard to Singapore at such a pivotal moment in the city’s evolution,” said Amar Lalvani, Executive Vice President, President & Creative Director, Lifestyle, Hyatt. “As Singapore solidifies its position as a global hub of commerce, culture and creativity, it presents an ideal setting for our brand.”

Designed by The Standard’s in-house team in collaboration with Ministry of Design, The Standard, Singapore marks the brand’s Southeast Asian expansion following the openings of Hua Hin and Bangkok Mahanakhon. Situated on Orange Grove Road, across from the Shangri-La and steps from the UNESCO-listed Botanic Gardens, the hotel features 143 rooms, a vibrant pool deck and lawn and three food and beverage venues: Kaya at The StandardKaya Bar and Café Standard.

Unexpected, indulgent and utterly anything but standard, the grand opening wasn’t just a party—it was a promise. Singapore, we’ve arrived. And we like it here.
