The Standard is looking for a copywriter to join its crackerjack in-house team.

The Standard hotels are located in Los Angeles, New York, Miami (with London coming soon). Founded by hotelier André Balazs in 1998, The Standard is known for its taste-making clientele, its pioneering design, and its unrelenting un-standard-ness. From prodigious opulence at The Top of The Standard to rock ‘n roll chic on the Sunset Strip, you never quite know what to expect, save for a beautiful setting, a fresh twist on Modernist design, and a smashing good time. The Standard’s irreverent and playful sensibility, combined with its careful consideration of design, detail, and service, have established its unique reputation in an age of faceless corporate bores.
About the Position
The copywriter will be responsible for writing copy for all facets of The Standard brand and will report to the editorial director. You should be able to craft language that snaps, crackles, and pops. Sparkle and sass help, too. A healthy sense of humor, in both your written work and disposition, is a must. Communications experience is (probably) required, as is a strong grasp of grammar and usage, but we like people with varied and unusual cultural interests, experience, and areas of expertise.

Responsibilities of the position include:

- Ensuring that every piece of written communication conveys The Standard’s playful, funny, provocative sensibility.

- Developing copy to communicate the wide-variety of Standard brand initiatives, including new and existing services, events, parties, products, promotions, printed materials, and so much more.


- Copywriting support for the five+ properties: monthly newsletters, in-room and on- property collateral, website copy, invitations, events, and promotional materials.


- Writing copy for the brand’s apps, One Night, including in-app recommendation content.


- Writing copy for the brand’s sundry social media channels: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc.


- Writing copy for The Standard’s websites.


- Promotional materials (hint: they shouldn’t feel like promotional materials). 


- Anything else we can think of!
