Q&A: Being In Between with Bill Patrick & Seth Troxler

Last week, the friends celebrated the long-awaited Ibiza launch of their photo book In Between; a showcase of Seth Troxler's life on tour via the lens of photographer and musician Bill Patrick.
Bill Patrick is a man of many talents. Known for his legendary DJ sets at iconic clubs like The Limelight, Vinyl, and Arc, he has also spent years capturing life through the lens of vintage cameras such as the Contax T2, Minolta Maxxum 7000, and Olympus XA2.

In 2023, Bill embarked on a ten-month global tour alongside his longtime friend, DJ and producer Seth Troxler. Spanning four continents, 20 countries, and 40 cities, the journey became the foundation for a new photo book. As Troxler shared on social media: "Bill documented every moment of this journey, combining photojournalism, music photography, and portraiture. The resulting photographs offer an intimate glimpse into my life on the road and a kaleidoscopic reflection on the velocity of life."

Last week, friends gathered on the White Isle for an intimate conversation between Patrick and Troxler, reflecting on the journey behind the lens. We sat down with Bill to hear some more about how the book came to be and more...

The book and a limited-edition T-shirt are now available exclusively at @thestandardibiza.

1. What does In Between mean to you?

It’s a nod to friendship, but also a little window into our dance music community and the ride we’re on as DJs and artists. It's a testament to how lucky we are to work with friends and support each other’s creative paths.

2. Four continents, 20 countries, 40+ cities… Where’s your favourite place to DJ?

Ibiza but mostly for everything that comes with being on the island outside of the clubs.

3. And your favourite dancefloor in the world? Why?

Closer in Kiev holds a special place in my heart. One of the most open minded and receptive crowds I’ve ever played for.

4. What’s your favourite image you’ve captured for In Between - and why?

There’s a photo I took in the NY subway on Halloween night that I really love. I think it encapsulates the type of photography I’m drawn to.

5. Most memorable moment on tour with Seth - the good, the bad, or the ugly?

My first time at Glastonbury was a memory that will stay with me forever. Absolutely loved every minute of it. As well as my first private jet experience, but mainly because it was the size of a small compact car and I wasn't convinced we were gonna make it out alive.

6. Did you have a creative plan when the tour began, or did it evolve on the road?

Yeah in the beginning the plan was to try and capture the tougher and less glamorous parts of touring. But as the tour progressed it turned into something more personal, focusing on the human experience and trying to capture a more nuanced view of life on the road.

7. Is there one track that captures the spirit of In Between?

Oklou “Harvest Sky” and Deftones “Digital Bath” for when a drink was spilled on my new digital camera.

8. You’ve got 24 hours in Ibiza - where are you heading?

Cala Xarraca for a swim. Nudo for lunch. Cafe Anita for a cortado. Maybe walk around Santa Gertrudis for a little shopping and then dinner with friends somewhere, maybe Hambre or Macao . Probably go to bed early and wake up and go swimming again before my flight. Noticeably omitting any clubs—am I boring?
