TheirStories Pride Special: Queer Voices in Football
TheirStories Pride Special: Queer Voices in Football
Wednesday 2nd July
The Library Lounge at The Standard, London
Celebrating Pride in London & the launch of the Women’s Euros, TheirStories presents a very special edition: Queer Voices in Football, bringing together LGBTQ+ players, fans, and industry voices to explore vital queer stories within football, and push for meaningful change in the game.
Whilst women’s football in the UK has long had strong LGBTQ+ representation, and initiatives like Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces are working to increase queer visibility in the game, there are still no openly LGBTQ+ footballers in the Premier League. Queer Voices in Football will draw from the diverse experiences of the women’s game, and grassroots teams who consistently champion queer communities, to assess the progress made, but crucially the work still to be done in ensuring all LGBTQ+ players & fans have a home in football.
In the run up to Pride weekend in London, and on the launch night of the Euros, the panel will reflect on the recent Supreme Court ruling & FA ban on trans women in football, hearing from those directly affected; discussing it’s impact, how we can move forward & the immense work still to do, whilst celebrating these pioneering voices at the forefront of UK football.
Panelists:
Liz Ward - DEI Consultant & Facilitator
Joanie Evans - Ex-player & previous Co-President of the Gay Games
Fae Fulconis - Hackney Women’s FC
Snake Denton - Journalist & life long Chelsea FC fan
Caz Simone - Huddersfield Town FC
The panel discussion will be followed by a very special spoken word performance performance from Caz Simone, DJ Vic Lentaigne in the Library Lounge, and the opening game of the 2025 Euros will be screened on The Standard’s terrace, so join us for a one off evening of queer intergenerational conversation, connection & celebration.

TheirStories is an intergenerational LGBTQ+ platform & event series, created to investigate, celebrate and uplift the diverse narratives and stories of the UK’s vibrant LGBTQ+ community, with talks, performances, cultural moments and music. Curated by Laurie Belgrave, founder of The Chateau, and currently resident at The Standard, London, these nourishing conversations between generations of queer creatives, artists & humxns provide a much needed space for learning, reflection and connection, for both the queer community, and allies looking to educate themselves on queer issues. TheirStories values and celebrates our history, contextualising our existence with the stories of the queer people who came before us.
