John Grant & Jonathan Watkins In Conversation

Wednesday 24th September

The Library Lounge @ The Standard, London

TheirStories is BACK at The Standard, London for their Autumn/Winter 2025 season, celebrating intergenerational LGBTQ+ stories in The Library Lounge.

To open the season, TheirStories welcomes an extremely special edition, with legendary American singer-songwriter John Grant & award winning choreographer & director Jonathan Watkins In Conversation, chaired by TheirStories founder Laurie Belgrave.

John Grant is an artist who needs little introduction, with a solo career spanning six critically acclaimed albums, collaborations with the likes of Sinead O’Connor, CMAT, Elton John, Kylie Minogue & Hercules & the Love Affair, plus BRIT & Mojo Award nominations, and a globally dedicated fan base. Last year he released his sixth studio album “The Art of the Lie”.

Jonathan Watkins is the founder of Ballet Queer, the U.K’s first LGBTQ+ ballet company to create authentic Queer work and showcase the talents of Queer artists. This year, Jonathan created A Single Man for the Manchester International Festival and the Royal Ballet. Adapted from Christopher Isherwood’s vital portrait of queer love and loss with new music and live performance from John Grant and composer Jasmin Kent Rodgman

Fresh from their collaboration on A Single Man, and it’s sold out run at the Royal Opera House this month, TheirStories is thrilled to welcome both artists during a brief gap in their busy schedules, to discuss their life & careers in depth, as well as their unique collaboration on A Single Man.

TheirStories is an intergenerational LGBTQ+ platform & event series, created to investigate, celebrate and uplift the diverse narratives and stories of the UK’s vibrant LGBTQ+ community, with talks, performances, cultural moments and music. Curated by Laurie Belgrave, founder of The Chateau, and currently resident at The Standard, London, these nourishing conversations between generations of queer creatives, artists & humxns provide a much needed space for learning, reflection and connection, for both the queer community, and allies looking to educate themselves on queer issues. TheirStories values and celebrates our history, contextualising our existence with the stories of the queer people who came before us.
