TheirStories: An Evening with Cocoa Butter Club
For the final TheirStories of the year we welcome the trailblazing cabaret collective The Cocoa Butter Club - an award-winning Black LGBTQIA+ founded performance platform where the melanated are celebrated - for a very special TheirStories takeover in The Library Lounge. Founded in 2016 as a creative clap back to the cultural appropriation and lack of representation within the industry, The Cocoa Butter Club serves up much-needed QTIBPOC visibility all year round, and we are thrilled to have them closing out our TheirStories’ 2023 series.
Kicking off the event will be a panel discussion featuring the dynamic duo behind The Cocoa Butter Club, founder and creative director Sadie Sinner and producer Cassie Leon, plus assistant producer & stage manager Seyi. The team will discuss the origins of the project, and why creating spaces that platform & celebrate queer performers of colour is so vital. This will be followed by performances from The Cocoa Butter Club’s top cabaret talent, including the founder herself, Sadie Sinner.

TheirStories is an intergenerational LGBTQ+ platform & event series, created to investigate, celebrate and uplift the diverse narratives and stories of the UK’s vibrant LGBTQ+ community, with talks, performances, cultural moments and music. Curated by Laurie Belgrave, founder of The Chateau, and currently resident at The Standard, London, these nourishing conversations between generations of queer creatives, artists & humxns provide a much-needed space for learning, reflection and connection, for both the queer community and allies looking to educate themselves on queer issues. TheirStories values and celebrates our history, contextualising our existence with the stories of the queer people who came before us.
