DOLPHIN MAN + THE BIG BLUE (DOUBLE FEATURE + CONVERSATION)
Friday, March 16, 7:00 pm
Regal South Beach
1120 Lincoln Rd, Miami Beach, FL 33139

Immortalized in Luc Besson's classic The Big Blue, Jacques Mayol was the world's greatest free-diver, a restless lifelong sea-adventurer whose destiny was forever altered by his friendship with Clown, the dolphin, while working at Miami Seaquarium in the 1950s. Blending spectacular archival materials with recollections from family members, contemporaries and actor Jean-Marc Barr-who portrayed Mayol in The Big Blue-Greek documentarian Lefteris Charitos' inspiring feature directorial debut, narrated by Barr, allows us to share in that dreamy wonder Mayol found below the ocean's surface, where he went as far as any human can go to fulfilling that deep inner urge to experience the freedom of dolphins. Following the screening of Dolphin Man, an extended conversation with Jean-Marc Barr will be held in the auditorium, along with Barr's personal introduction to the second half of this double-feature presentation: a 4K digital restoration of The Big Blue.

WINTER BROTHERS
Sunday, March 18, 6:15 pm
REGAL 18

Sometimes nothing can seem more alien than life on Earth—especially if we’re talking about life in the Earth. Icelandic visual artist and filmmaker Hlynur Pálmason’s beguiling Winter Brothers follows Emil and Johan, two brothers whose work takes them deep into a Danish limestone mine, a locale rendered as weird and wondrous as a fairy-tale netherworld. Life aboveground, meanwhile, features more familiar conflicts: Emil’s toxic homebrew may have made a co-worker fatally ill, while Johan’s decision to sleep with the object of Emil’s long-brewing desire sparks a fraternal fracas.

Pálmason’s winter wonderland is by turns eerie and odd, beautiful and forbidding, and from start to finish utterly captivating. In short, Winter Brothers is one of the most uniquely imaginative feature debuts in recent memory and well worth burrowing into.
