Job Purpose
As the Fall 2024 Marketing Intern for The Standard, East Village team, you will be assisting the Marketing Director with various aspects of on-site promotion and programming at one of downtown Manhattan’s most distinctive boutique hotels. This opportunity will allow you to gain valuable on-the-ground skills and knowledge around full-cycle brand marketing in the hospitality/lifestyle industries. Your day-to-day will offer exposure to digital ads + email marketing, programming events + partnerships, PR agency management, influencer + social campaigns, and more. The role will support the Rooms, Food & Beverage, and Event/Sales departments.
The ability to keep a close pulse on New York City’s cultural happenings is a must, as you’ll have the chance to assist on partnerships with top brands and creators around events like NYFW, Halloween, Standard Votes, and the holiday season. When you’re not supporting existing campaigns, you’ll have the opportunity to identify a mutually agreed-upon area of interest and develop a semester-long guest-facing project around it. We welcome both those with traditional hospitality experience and applicants with broader creative interests (fashion, art, music, etc).
Duties & Responsibilities
1. PARTNERSHIPS/PROGRAMMING
- Work on a semester-long project in your area of choosing (i.e. producing an event, starting a new content series, etc.)
- Ideate new culturally-relevant partnerships that introduce the brand to new guests and create press value
- Update banquet event orders, calendars + other planning documents for marketing events
- Oversee day-of event tasks such as guest list management, floor plan setup, menu creation, and invoice submission
2. SOCIAL MEDIA/WEBSITE MAINTENANCE
- Update company website and third-party sites with refreshed imagery, copy, and hours
- Ideate new social media content franchises
- Update Google Business posts and profiles
- Film and edit iPhone content for TikTok and Instagram Reels
- Using Canva to make edits to recurring graphics used for Instagram Stories, in-room collateral, and more
- Contribute to The Standard Culture, our website’s editorial section
3. PR/INFLUENCER RELATIONS
- Make reservations and prepare in-room amenities for VIP guests
- Capture coverage of influencer partners
- Continue to maintain and enrich influencer database
4. GENERAL/DIGITAL
- Compile data and screenshots for monthly marketing analytics reports
- Update and print all property signage as needed
- Update email CRM with new database adds
- Update guest transactional emails with relevant imagery + copy
- Assist with coordinating giveaway + donation gift certificates
- Shadow meetings with relevant agencies, brand partners, and internal collaborators
- Support with with professional photo shoots
- Misc. daily admin tasks
Qualifications & Requirements
- Ability to work in The Standard, East Village office (based out of the East Village) three (3) days a week
- Start & end dates flexible: mid-September through mid-December
- Passionate about NYC creators, cultural events, and social media trends
- Understanding: Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions according to established procedures.
- Basic understanding of revenue management
- Comprehension: Fluent in the English language
- Organizational Skills: Work efficiently, utilize multi-tasking, prioritize tasks
- Hygiene and Sanitation: Adherence to uniform, grooming and personal hygiene standards and expectations per Standard of Operating Procedures
- Punctuality: Adherence to posted schedule and arrival time and attendance at mandatory meetings. Able to respond quickly and effectively to emails and phone calls
- Responsibility: Personal comportment in line with The Standard, New York policies, standards, and expectations
- Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Can handle the pressure of a high volume, high-energy venue
- Strong communication (both written and oral) and management skills
- Guest service-oriented, detail-oriented, and hospitality-minded
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
Physical Requirements
- Able to traverse spaces throughout the building as necessary
- Able to work standing for a minimum of 10 hours a day
- Periodical bending, kneeling, and stretching
- Able to pull, push, carry and lift at least 50 pounds
- Must be able to seize, grasp, turn and hold objects with hands
Desirable
- Proficient in Canva and/or Adobe Illustrator + Photoshop
- Prior experience in either hospitality service, event production, or social media management
- Current or recent undergraduate student
