Director of Design
Job Purpose:
The
Property Director of Design is the quintessential design brand representative
on property, in charge of coordinating the proper design representation of the
brand into physical form. The role’s main focus is to assist and liaise between
the properties and SIM Design Team while overseeing the property design at the
Standard (in select locations) throughout South East Asia. In addition, the
role is responsible for maintaining the brand’s aesthetic and quality
expectations throughout the life of the Standard project and coordinating as needed
cross departments to ensure the guest’ experiential cohesion. Areas of
responsibility include but are not limited to: furniture, small construction
projects, signage, maintenance of existing design, assisting in design
development, visual aids, uniforms and anything that is style and creatively
related which enhances the personality and image of the property.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Working closely with on property Housekeeping and Engineering team to ensure proper design and guest experience execution
- Processing and follow through
of all FF&E, remodel, repair,
maintenance and seasonal
activation projects etc
Assist in ensuring that clear and accurate reporting of active, pending and completed projects is maintained and understood within the team and that all departments are kept abreast of their related projects on an ongoing basis including punch lists and costs incurred - Supporting the integration and ensuring accurate use
of the “Brand Integrity Group” email /Knowcross or any other repair,
maintenance, capex et. communication with impact on guest experience
Work closely with Department Heads and Management Team to collaboratively ensure all space meets specified standards and all public areas are “in show” status at all times. - Collaborate with Housekeeping, Engineering, and Food & Beverage Teams to ensure consistent interior design standards are met and all rooms, displays, floor layouts, structures, signage, landscaping and any event setups are up to visual standards.
- Execution of all design related projects specified by SIM Design - sourcing material, price comparison, vendor selection and budget maintenance.
- Knowledge and ability to read construction document sets, reading floor plans, distinguishing scale, and understanding spatial relationships of structures
- Create instruction manuals for proper maintenance of spaces when needed.
- Scheduling, follow up, and oversight of outside vendor projects in a courteous, efficient, and professional manner.
- Process and tracking of Purchase Orders and check requests.
- Coordination of furniture placement, landscaping maintenance, tools and materials needed for entire property.
- Maintenance organization and inventory of all fixture, furniture, and equipment assets on and off property.
- Compiling checklist of public spaces and guest rooms to review with Director of Design
- Coordinate on-site installations and communicate scheduled work with relevant in-house departments.
- Source new and replacement materials for projects (locally, nationally, or internationally). At times, traveling to retrieve.
- Work closely with Marketing Team throughout the development and execution of physical and creative setups of activations and events.
- Must understand basic wood, metal and material finishes and general contracting terms
- Ability to thrive in a very fast paced environment and commit to project needs/expectations on an individual basis – adapting, accepting and applying immediate changes.
- Problem solving in situations without an easy answer; troubleshooting issues before they happen.
Required skills and Qualifications:
- A 3 - 5 years of previous interior design experience needed Degree in a design or art field required
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suites, Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Sketchup (and/or comparable programs such as Vectorworks, Rhino/3D software)
- Experience working with tools/crafting and proper woodshop etiquette
- Ability to effectively communicate creative concepts, invention and ideas with staff and management.
- Highly organized, extreme attention to detail while multi-tasking
- Fluency in English both verbally and written; excellent communication skills
- Ability to work alone or with a team while having a positive attitude
- Full understanding or Architecture and Interiors,
with a keen eye for Design
