Songs from a Room: Buscabulla at The Standard Spa, Miami Beach

In the latest installment of our video series, Songs from a Room, Buscabulla plays "Tártaro" at The Standard Spa, Miami Beach.

Back when the Art Basel parties were in full swing at The Standard Spa, Miami Beach, we snuck off to do something pretty special with the band Buscabulla, which is fitting considering their name is Spanish slang for "troublemaker."

Lead by the Brooklyn-based Puerto Rican couple of Raquel Berrios and Luis Alfredo Del Valle, Buscabulla's experimental Latin pop sound is singular on the scene. They're on the verge of releasing their new EP titled Buscabulla EP II, and we were lucky to get them to play one of their new singles, "Tártaro," just for us in an intimate set on a dreamy Miami night.

"Tártaro" is a tribute to legendary Frankie Ruiz, a Puerto Rican cult figure and icon of the salsa erotica movement of the '80s. Raquel tells us he was known for his "raunchy yet tender" songs and sang of "sex motels, extramarital affairs, and passionate encounters." Buscabulla directly references such lyrics of his in their song "Tártaro," which they call "a love letter to Frankie"  (Tártaro is a nickname for Ruiz). For the song's official video, they went to Puerto Rico's notorious Hotel OK where some such affairs could have taken place.

In keeping with the song's theme, we decided to have a little hotel encounter with Buscabulla of our own as part of our Songs from a Room video series. Comienza bailando.
