Saran Yen Panya Pushes Festive Limits in Bangkok

It's beginning to look a lot like the festive season at The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon—but this isn't your grandma's Christmas tree. We collaborated with designer Saran Yen Panya on cheery decorations for the most wonderful time of the year. With a futuristic twist, his installations in The Parlor and Tease are all we want this holiday season.

Drop by our Asia flagship to take a peek at Saran Yen Panya’s amazing works. On The Parlor terrace, you’ll find an oversized red tree with mirrored surfaces—reclaimed plastic items from Thai markets. Panya says he wanted to “play with the juxtaposition of cheap and luxury, good taste and bad taste, and the fact that what you see in the mirror may not always be perfect, but you should cherish yourself and all the angles of what made you, you.”

Meanwhile in Tease, tea service has taken a holiday twist. More of Panya’s work (another tree in green) appears in our trippy tearoom alongside playful petit fours and a colorful holiday menu. Sweet and savory scones, fruity Chintzy Boxes and playful Pinkie Drops are just some of our cheeky additions to the menu in December and January.

Panya founded 56thStudio, a creative studio in Bangkok where he brings conceptual brand philosophies into the tangible realm. His work explores narrative through film, graphics and installations like the stunning displays at The Standard. Panya also runs Citizens of Nowhere, a brand dedicated to Thai handicrafts.

See the installation up close from December 1, 2023 through January 31, 2024. Here’s a preview of his festive flourish:
