Step Inside the Met Gala After Party with Janelle Monáe

After the stars served their best looks (inspired by Karl Lagerfeld) at The Met Gala, they flocked to The Standard, High Line. Another fashion visionary—Janelle Monáe—held court in Boom, with musical backup from Kaytranada. We walked the tightrope of power and style with Janelle, and you won’t believe who turned up.
On the first Monday in May, all roads lead to Boom: This year's Met Gala honored the opening of Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, the latest exhibition from The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. After the main event, the stars aligned at our after party at The Standard, High LineJanelle Monáe held court on the 18th floor with musical backup from Kaytranada, and the guest list was major.

Janelle turned not one but two looks at the party, after putting on a show for the paps downstairs. Her oversized cat bag was an homage to Choupette, Lagerfeld's beloved cat and an unofficial (but much-memed) mascot of the Gala. The Dirty Computer triple threat performed "Float" and unreleased tracks from her next album. She wasn't shy about working the room (or the DJ booth with Kaytranada) and hit the banquettes with her crew from Atlantic Records.

Our host with the most made time for a speech declaring 2023 "the age of pleasure."
