Commis Chef - Decimo · £31,200 (inclusive of Tronc) · Full Time · 4 Days Week · circa 45 Hours per week [Tuesday - Saturday with fixed days off - Sunday & Monday + 1 other day] 

Michelin-starred Chef Peter Sanchez-Iglesias merges the Spanish cuisine of his family with his love of Mexico for his debut London restaurant, Decimo. Expect lots of flavour - gambas rojas, Iberico pork, mezcal cocktails and a new take on tacos with a dramatically different tortilla. Decimo is situated on the 10th floor of The Standard, London, and features two separate bar areas, expansive main restaurant which showcases live fire cooking and two semi private dining spaces; with floor-to-ceiling windows providing dramatic views across the London skyline.

We are defined by our richness of personality, diversity of background and lifestyle and are now looking for a Commis Chef to join our Decimo Kitchen team and who will capture the very essence of this culinary destination.

Your Role

As a Commis Chef at The Standard, London, you will become part of an exceptional culinary and kitchen team that will provide an extensive food service across our Decimo Restaurant. You will of course be passionate about cooking, with an exceptional working knowledge of kitchen operations and order of service; along with a deep appreciation of quality food and proven knowledge of production and cooking techniques.

While this is an entry level position; you will of course be passionate about cooking, with a good working knowledge of kitchen operations and knowledge of the latest food trends and London restaurant scene will help you create an environment where you will not only delight our guest, but also excite and surprise them to create the ultimate culinary experience in this open kitchen with live fire cooking, that is anything but Standard! Prior experience of preparing Spanish or Mexican cuisine is preferred!

Do you have what it takes to be a Commis Chef at The Standard

This is not a ‘Standard’ Commis Chef position so you will need to have miles and miles of personality and stamina, be highly social, upbeat and friendly; confident and can handle pressure well; thrive in a high-volume, high-energy environment and able to work equally well both independently and as part of a team.

  • A minimum of 1 years prior experience as a Commis Chef or Apprentice is essential and should have been ideally gained in a similar large scale destination restaurant or wider hospitality business.
  • Confidence in Kitchen operations and the order of service
  • Experience of working with Spanish &/or Mexican Cuisine and Live Fire Cooking a plus
  • Have excellent people skills and prior experience of working in a section in a busy, high volume restaurant service
  • Ideally Hold professional culinary & food safety qualifications to a minimum of level 2 
  • A flexible approach to working hours with the ability to work shifts, including weekends and nights
