Calm Abiding Meditation

Shamatha (Calm Abiding) meditation is a remarkably effective method of training the mind, increasing the powers of concentration, observation, and perception. It improves the memory and allows one to gain control over the mind, so that it isn't so easily swept away by distractions and emotions. It provides a wonderful antidote to stressful circumstances, whether created by outer conditions or the pain and discomforts of illness and or mental distress. Using this method of focusing the mind in an open, relaxed way, even for a short time every day, gives one a greater ability to learn and understand things and develops one's natural positive qualities such as patience, calmness, and compassion.

In this 2 hour workshop we will explore the preparatory techniques, along with the nuts and bolts of Buddhist meditation practices that counteract the common obstacles that prevent us from experiencing the inborn positive qualities of mind.
