Le Bain

Best of 2016: DJ Palace

Brooklyn collective DJ Palace (aka DJ Bruce, Tommy Castro, and William Robbins) share some of their 2016 favorites before they return to Le Bain on Sunday, January 15th.

BEST MIX
Universal Cave's Discobelle Mix
The UCave guys are a DJ trio (Shawn Ryan, Brian Cassidy, and Ryan Todd) and label out of Philadelphia (Bruce’s home town). Any mix from these guys  is VG+, but this Discobelle mix really shows their range without having see them play (which is also great!).

BEST TRACKS
KiNK's "Chorus"
KiNK is a DJ Palace favorite. There's at least one track a year that reminds everyone he's the master of big room tension without the cheese!

WhoMadeWho's "Keep Me In My Plane (DJ Koze Hudson River Dub)"
This is the standout track from the stellar Mushroom House EP1 (Toy Tronics). The whole EP bangs with a cohesive tech-acid-sleeze. This record will be in Tommy's bag for a long time.

BEST ALBUM
Francis & The Lights's Farewell, Starlite!
Say what you want about pop music, but it was really really good in 2016. Farewell Starlite! fits right in step with Blood Orange, Anderson .Paak, Solange, and Kaytranada.

Michael Turtle's Phantoms of Dreamland
There are a lot of late nights and early mornings at DJ Palace. This aptly named LP is good accompaniment to anything that should go on after 4am.

BEST WATCH
Atlanta
DJ Palace has no TV, but we figured out how to watch Donald Glover's Atlanta, and boy, it's quite a trip, especially the episode about the club promoter.

BEST READ
A copy Paul Raffalele’s Love Injection is in almost every room of DJ Palace. The zine is an honest product of the community and provides a window into a scene that is really thriving right now. Solid reading.

BEST FUN
A good after-hours at DJ Palace is always a good time. Invite-only of course.

On Sunday, January 15th, Le Bain presents Nouveau York featuring DJ Palace
