Announcing The Standard x Paris Review Writers In Residency Program

Standard Culture is getting into bed with The Paris Review (again!). Well, not so much getting into bed as turning down one of The Standard, East Village's super plush kings in hopes of flushing out the neighborhood muses. The Standard x Paris Review “Writers In Residency” offers two lucky scribes three weeks to complete his or her manuscript in the comfort of our newly revamped hotel on The Bowery. The first residency takes place in January, the second in July and the deadline for submissions is November 1st, 2013.

East Village Muses: William Burroughs, Basquiat, Debbie Harry

The lucky winners will receive, in addition to all the creature comforts of hotel living, daily continental breakfast and as much free coffee as they require. While hard work is essential, life in the Village brims with distractions inspiration and we hope one takes full advantage. Strolls and cocktail breaks are required. Mingling with the locals is mandatory. The LA Times has some more advice on the matter.

Over the past sixty years The Paris Review has discovered, published or interviewed just about every significant 20th and 21st-century writer in the English language. Philip Roth, V.S. Naipaul, T. Coraghessan Boyle, Mona Simpson, Edward P. Jones and Rick Moody were all first published in The Paris Review. You could be next.

Dorothy Parker about to write something very mean indeed.
