Black To The Future presents: Kinetic Discourses

We’re delighted to be partnering with Black to the Future and The Standard, London to kick off Black to the Future’s series of Kinetic Discourses, in which two storytellers discover each other's realms of expertise through dialogue.

RSL Honorary Fellow and actress Adjoa Andoh will be in conversation with Hodderscape science fiction and fantasy editor Calah Singleton, discussing future worlds, fantasies and what goes on behind the scenes in the making of these.

We’ll be taking over The Standard’s retro-futuristic Library Lounge, the former home to the Camden Council Library for this unique and intimate conversation.

Black To The Future is an Afro-Futurist celebration of outstanding Black artists, a space for visionary imaginings to thrive. It begins as Black History Month ends, with the theme of ‘Black Phantasmagoria’, accompanying Fantasy: Realms of Imagination. A festival founded and directed by Irenosen Okojie in collaboration with the Royal Society of Literature and the British Library, with a focus on invigorating dialogues and genres within which Black literature and art is flourishing.

Adjoa Andoh is one of Britain’s leading actors on stage and screen, and won global acclaim as Lady Danbury in the Netflix smash Bridgerton – a role that saw her nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress at the 2021 NAACP Image Awards. A BBC radio actor for over 30 years, she is also an award-winning narrator of over 150 audiobooks. She co-funds the Future Worlds Prize for Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of Colour.

Calah Singleton is a writer and editor, originally from the United States but now based in London. A graduate of Yale and the LSE, she works as an editor at Hachette/Hodder & Stoughton's science fiction and fantasy imprint, Hodderscape. She was shortlisted for the 2023 Future Worlds Prize for Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of Colour and is represented by Stevie Finegan at Zeno Agency. She's on Twitter/X @calah.
