Standard Sounds Presents Alec Orachi Of NewEchoes

Alec Orachi wants you to know that you are free to go and free to do anything you want to. The unconventional singer and songwriter of Bangkok-based record label, NewEchoes, chose not to plan the lyrics for his new 10-track album, FREE2GO. Instead, he let his mind run free while recording. Come March 4th, you’ll have the chance to see it all in action as Alec brings his signature reggae, jazz, hip-hop, and R&B sounds to The Standard, Hua Hin. Until then, have a scroll through our conversation with the artist in anticipation for his show.

Tell us about the name FREE2GO, what’s the meaning behind it?

I said the word ‘Go’ a lot in the album and I thought I should name it something with the letter ‘G’. It was originally ‘Go Getter’ but I didn’t quite like it. One morning I was thinking about the name and suddenly got a spam email titled ‘Free To Go’, and I thought, what a coincidence. I used it because that’s exactly how I felt. We are free to go and free to do anything we want to. We don’t need to ask for permission like we used to in school.

How do you want your fans to feel when they listen to your album?

I’m not quite sure what they’ll feel to be honest. My friends who always give me feedback have said ‘This is so me’, and they have no filter, so I think it is going in the right direction.

What piece of advice would you give your younger self?

Hang in there you are doing everything right.

If your life were a movie, what would your superpower be?

I would be able to disappear from place to place. The movie would get good when I lose my superpower and have to reach places on my own. That would be fun. It’s funny you mention superpowers, I actually have a song named superpower coming up.

Let’s talk about that, what kind of music do you want to explore in your next album?

I think I can find the good in all kinds of things, I can find elements that I like from all kinds of music. Currently I’m using a lot of slang from the Northeast even though I live in central Thailand, so who knows.

Who are your dream dinner party guests, and what would you talk about?

Probably Bob Marley, talking about life and nothing all that serious.

What is the first word that comes to your mind when we say Hua Hin?

Beach.

What can we expect during your performance at The Standard, Hua Hin?

Something different for a change.

Come see Alec live at 5pm on March 4th, 2023 while overlooking the vibrant pool scene and Hua Hin’s pristine beach at our Lido Rooftop.
