Finance Intern
The Standard, Lisbon!
Let’s Go Lisbon! slated to open 2027, The Standard, Lisbon marks our long-anticipated arrival in one of Europe’s most happening cities.
The Standard, Lisbon, located at Palácio Santa Clara rises above the colourful alleyways of Alfama, one of the most picturesque neighbourhoods in Lisbon to offer first-row seating to the best river views in town. Built upon the ancient College of St. Francis Xavier which has continuously served as the Portuguese Royal Navy Hospital for over 200 years. Samuel Torres de Carvalho is a leading architect dedicated to reimagining the property to a forward-facing Lisbon, that promises to expect the unconventional, whist carefully respecting the buildings heritage.
Anchored in food, music, art, and culture, The Standard, Lisbon brings the brand’s design, culture and activation-driven philosophy to Portugal and will be a place for both locals and travellers to soak up the best of Lisbon. With 177 guestrooms (plus adjacent residences), this expansive property features numerous spaces for The Standard’s renowned day- and nightlife programming. The ground floor welcomes guests and locals into the lobby lounge, pharmacy bar, all day dining restaurant, and multiple terraces, gardens and pool deck. Upstairs, there is the Café, Spa & Gym, plus event spaces. The Rooftop features its own dedicated bar and roof terrace—set to become a neighbourhood destination. Throughout the building, additional public and private event spaces are platforms for happenings.
The Standard’s signature mix of playful, sophisticated, unexpected hospitality finds roots and resonances in local culture in Lisbon’s oldest neighbourhood and the city's cultural hub. Fado's holy land and a charming labyrinth of alleyways, curled staircases and hidden patios, this hole-in-the-wall mecca will surprise and delight time and again, juxtaposed by The Standard, which will of course be anything but!
Your role
As our Finance Intern, you'll join us at one of the most exciting moments in a hotel's journey: the countdown to opening. Working alongside the Finance team, you'll gain first-hand experience of the controls behind hotel revenue, payments and reporting, from preparing processes before opening to supporting the daily close once operations begin.
You'll help prepare finance procedures and supporting files, learn our hotel systems and reporting routines, and track that reconciliations and daily control checks are completed, reviewed and signed off by the appropriate colleagues.
Once our doors open, you'll support daily income audit and banking reconciliations. You'll compare point-of-sale (POS) activity with postings in the property management system (PMS), investigate and document variances, and follow up with the relevant teams so corrections are made and unresolved items are escalated in a timely manner.
This isn't your typical internship. You'll experience the pace and challenges of launching a new hotel while learning how revenue controls work in practice. You'll help review voids, discounts and room rates, check that adjustments have the right supporting documents and approvals, and contribute to clear daily and weekly reporting. We're looking for curiosity, care and a willingness to ask questions, follow details through and work with colleagues across the hotel.
Do you StandOut and have what it takes to be our Finance Intern at The Standard, Lisbon?
Previous hotel experience isn't essential. We're looking for someone with a positive attitude, an interest in finance and hospitality, and an appetite to learn.
In addition, the ideal candidate will be anything but standard…
• Be studying Finance, Accounting, Business or a related discipline within their degree, ideally seeking an internship as part of their academic programme
• Have a genuine interest in hotel finance, income audit and financial controls
• Communicate clearly and confidently with colleagues across different hotel teams
• Bring curiosity, initiative and a practical, hands-on approach
• Be organised, accurate and attentive to detail, with confidence working with numbers and deadlines
• Be a team player who's eager to learn, ask questions and take responsibility for following tasks through
• Handle financial information with discretion and respect for confidentiality
• Be comfortable with spreadsheets and technology; familiarity with a PMS, POS or finance system is a plus
• Have a good working knowledge of Portuguese and English; additional languages are a plus
• Be flexible with working hours in line with the agreed internship programme and hotel reporting needs
