TheirStories: Takweer Takeover

TheirStories: Takweer Takeover

TheirStories is a series of LGBTQ+ cultural events, hosted in the surroundings of the Library Lounge at The Standard, London and curated by Laurie Belgrave, founder of The Chateau. Seeking to investigate, celebrate and uplift the diverse narratives and stories of London’s vibrant LGBTIQA+ community, with intergenerational talks, performances, cultural moments and music. For this very special edition, we are thrilled to welcome Takweer, to co-curate a total evening takeover of the Library Lounge, for their first-ever in-person event.

Takweer is a digital platform, founded by Beirut-born artist Marwan Kaabour, that aims to collect, archive, explore, and celebrate queer narratives in Arab history and pop culture. This specially-curated evening will kick off with a conversation between Marwan and Sophie Chamas, an anthropologist of social movements, and whose research sits at the intersection of feminist and queer political theory, Middle East Studies, political economy, and cultural studies. It will be followed up by a poetry reading by Sarona Abuaker, a poet, artist, and activist who explores the interstices of visual cultures, Palestinian futurisms, and queer phenomenologies. The night will end with Algerian-British DJ Seksu, mixing sweet sounds from the SWANA region.

Join us for this very special one-off evening of rich cultural discussion, performance and celebration. As always, entry is Free via RSVP, so save your spot now here
