BOOK STAND is a Haven for the Urban Nature Enthusiast

The online art book retailer, BOOK STAND, has opened a retail residency inside The Standard, Hollywood to coincide with Los Angeles-based artist Lili Cuzor's month-long lobby installation titled Plants: Our Silent Guardians. (Check out pictures from the opening artist reception here) Keeping on theme, the store's curator and temporary shop girl, Claire Cottrell, filled the space with all things flora and fauna related. The photos in the gallery above, taken by Stella Berkofsky, highlight some of Claire Cottrell's favorite art books about plants.

Along with some of the coolest vegetation-themed art books around, BOOK STAND also carries vintage and rare books, so-beautiful-that-you'll-want-to-keep-em-forever magazines such as Chickpea and Wilder, Jesse Tise’s Plant Food zine, L.A.-based artist Ben Medansky’s ceramics, Alexis Smart’s floral remedies and one of a kind art pieces designed by Lauren Spencer King.

Along with a beautifully curated store, Claire also has planned some amazing workshops to be held in the shop space. The first, scheduled for Thursday, April 4th, will be a kokedama workshop with artist Lili Cuzor. Kokedama (translation “moss ball”) is the practice of removing a root system from its container, surrounding it in a mud cake, then wrapping the whole thing in moss before winding it in string and hanging it. An example of kokedama is currently on display as part of the Lili's exhibit in The Box:

Other workshops in the works include Backyard Skills with Ecology Center Director Evan Marks, cheese tastings, consultations and custom floral blends, book signings, and a class on herbal medicine pouches.

BOOK STAND's retail residency goes through April 22. For details and dates of the upcoming workshops, click here.
