5 Things to Check Out During Design Week

New York Design Week (May 16-20) abounds with presentations, pop-up shops, expos, gallery shows and more prints and patterns than you can shake a room service tray at. Standard Culture whittles down the landscape.

1) Sight Unseen Offsite
Curated by the ladies behind Sight Unseen, this offsite presentation is our go to for a vibrant pick-me-up. Highlights include conceptual works by the designer Ian Stell and Rich Brilliant Willing's snake-like Palindrome chandelier.

2) Intro NY
Repping designers from around the world, this downtown offsite presentation is a must for lovers of clean lines and honest materials (wood, glass, wool). New Zealand's Resident and Denmark's Muuto are our favorites amongst the bunch.

3) The Shed
Makers & Brothers have set up shop in the Garden at The Standard, East Village and fellow carver James Carroll will be making made-to-order spoons for anyone who’s interested. Read about the art of spooning here.

4) Matter
No New York Design Week is complete without a visit to this Soho showroom. Our one-stop shop for the best in contemporary design.

5) The Neue Galerie
An Austrian and German classic... Although The Neue Galerie is not officially partaking in New York Design Week, we highly recommend the trip uptown to see design in its Viennese prime. Be sure to visit the Museum's book shop and flip through any Josef Hoffmann related material.
