TheirStories: Lakuti & Tama Sumo In Conversation

TheirStories is an LGBTQ+ cultural conversations series, hosted in the surroundings of The Library Lounge at The Standard, London and curated by Laurie Belgrave, founder of The Chateau. Seeking to investigate, celebrate and uplift the diverse narratives and stories of London’s vibrant LGBTIQA+ community, with intergenerational talks, performances, cultural moments and music.

Opening our Spring / Summer ‘23 season of TheirStories events is a very special conversation between two of the most in-demand house music selectors. Lakuti & Tama Sumo are resident DJs at Berghain / Panorama Bar, partners in both life and music, playing together and apart for rapturous audiences across the globe.

Lakuti was born and raised in Soweto, South Africa, before moving to London in 1997 and later making her home in Berlin. She is the founder of Uzuri Recordings and has spent much of her career working with and highling Black artists within dance music.

Tama Sumo started DJing at Drama bar in Berlin / Kreuzberg in 1993 and quickly forged a name for herself in the underground Berlin house music scene, ending up regularly behind the decks at Ostgut, Berghain’s predecessor, before eventually settling as a resident at Panorama Bar / Berghain.

We are so excited to welcome Lakuti & Tama Sumo during a gap in their busy schedules, for a rare opportunity to hear the stories behind a lifetime of musical exploration together. This event will be live recorded for Resident Advisor’s RA Exchange series.
