New York - High Line, NYC Group Sales Director

      The Standard, High Line is seeking a Account Director, Group Sales to join our rock star Sales team to help us hit those numbers!

      The Account Director, Group Sales ensures that sales quotas are met and that sales activities, preferred accounts, and group bookings are focused to yield maximum revenue per room occupied.  This position will sell The Standard High Line property exclusively and will assist the Director of Sales in managing the Group Sales Team.

      Qualifications and Requirements:



      • Exert minimal physical effort in transporting items of need. 

      •  Endure various physical movements throughout the work areas. 

      • Remain in stationary position for extended periods of time. 

      • Satisfactorily communicate with guests, management and co-workers to their understanding. 

      • BA graduate. 

      • 4+ years experience in Hotel Group Sales. 

      • Fluency in English both verbally and non-verbally. 

      • Compute accurate mathematical calculations.

      Ability to:

      • Perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy. 

      • Prioritize and organize. 

      • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. 

      • Be a clear thinker, remaining calm and resolving problems using good judgments. 

      • Work cohesively with co-workers as part of team. 

      • Understand and maximize the utilization of all automated sales and reservation systems involved with group business. 

      • Maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent hotel data.

      Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

      • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards.

      • Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended.

      • Anticipate guests’ needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all guests, however busy and whatever time of day.

      • Maintain positive guest relations at all times.

      • Resolve guest complaints, ensuring guest satisfaction.

      • Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work areas.

      • Maintain complete knowledge of property management system and manual procedures.

      • Ensure communication of Group Sales between other Department Heads is maintained to maximize the guest experience and hotel profitability.

      • Respond properly in any hotel emergency or safety situation.

      • Direct sales activities of the hotel to achieve budgeted goals.

      • Assist the Directors of Sales in establishing and directing the development of annual group booking sales goals ensuring that these are fully understood and implemented in the hotel.

      • Direct the reporting and appraising of the results against planned objectives; take appropriate actions to maximize sales and affect need periods.

      • Understand and utilize automated sales and reservations systems.

      • Assist in the annual marketing plan.

      • Assist in the preparation of the budget and ensure department operates within cost constraints.

      • Control data, availability, and rates on guestrooms.

      • Establish a group room rate and average rate goals based on marketing plan and overall objectives.

      • Evaluate, solicit, sell and confirm business (group, domestic and international) market areas to meet overall budgeted sales and profitability.

      • Develop data and recommend programs to meet client’s needs.

      • Negotiate and achieve maximum revenue / profit potential while satisfying client’s needs.

      • Identify and control work relationships, areas of accountability and performance of the personnel assigned.

      • Review sales work files to ascertain a proper exchange of information between hotel and client.

      • Analyze sales statistics against booked vs. consumed business.

      • Reviews market analysis and determine client needs, occupancy potential, rates desired, etc.

      • Assist Director of Sales in coordinating special sales activities, promotions, trade shows, etc.

      • Participate in solving problems of guestroom space conflicts,   salvaging of accounts, which have threatened cancellation.

      • Contact customers in house to promote good will and foster additional business and repeat bookings.

      • Enhance the hotels community image and stay abreast of the competition, new developments and sales methods and techniques in the hotel industry to maximize sales volume and profitability.

      • Conduct and / or attend meetings to maintain favorable working relationships among employees and to promote maximum morale, productivity and efficiency.

      • Prepare reports as requested to develop a more informative database for improved management decision making and critical evaluation of work activities.

      • Keep immediate supervisor promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance coming to his / her attention so prompt corrective action is taken where appropriate.

      • Perform all accountabilities in a timely and efficient manner, following established policy and projecting a favorable image of The Standard High Line to achieve objectives, public recognition and acceptance.

      • Identify and control work relationships, areas of accountability and performance of the personnel assigned.

      • Determine, in conjunction with the Director of Sales, the standards of performance as a basis to review progress of personnel assigned.

      • Ensure proper training of assigned personnel.

      • Foster a cooperative and harmonious working climate conducive to maximum employee moral and productivity.

      • Develop individuals for future advancement.

      • Liaison with respective Department Heads to ensure that customer needs are being handled efficiently / effectively.

      • Respond properly in any hotel emergency or safety situation.

      • Participate in weekly sales meeting to include leisure, convention sales, and convention services.

      • Establish booking policies to achieve the market mix with best profile for the time period.

      • Attend Forecast Meeting to liaison with Hotel Operations.

      • Maintain own Customer base.

      • Perform other tasks or projects as assigned by hotel management and staff.
