Annie O Presents: Jack Gray

New York-Standard Sounds

Jack Gray moved all the way across the world, from a small town in North Queensland, Australia to Los Angeles. He toured with fellow Australian artist Dean Lewis in the U.S. and Canada, decamped to Nashville to do some songwriting, debuted new tracks every few weeks and now he’s set to release his first-ever EP, Nights Like This on May 31st. It’s been quite the momentous year for 20-year-old, to say the least. He will be in New York performing his latest alt-pop tracks at The Standard, East Village on June 3rd. In advance of the show, Gray caught up with Annie O to talk about his artistic process and the exciting new projects he’s got in the works.

Annie O Presents: Raffaella

New York-Standard Sounds

Born and raised on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, Raffaella is quick to rattle off Billie Holiday, St. Vincent, and Regina Spektor as her biggest influences. She spent the early days of her career collaborating with the band Bråves who encouraged her to begin releasing original music. Raffaella's experience as a student in California inspired her breakout single Sororicide, featuring bright piano bubbles and a homage to Heathers.  Following her debut, Raffaella’s tracks, Bruce Willis, and NASA's Fake continued to develop her clever and catchy dream pop sound, giving us another peak at her forthcoming EP. Raffaella is back in NY and Annie O caught up with her before her show at The Standard, East Village on May 6.

Annie O Presents: Angelique Kidjo

New York-Standard Sounds

Angelique Kidjo’s next album, due April 19, will be “Celia,” a tribute to the Afro-Cuban singer Celia Cruz. “Quimbara,” the first cover, was one of Cruz’s signature songs in the 1970s. "Kidjo reconnects the salsa original to West Africa, layering the song with a tumbling six-beat rhythm, a brass-band undertow and a tangle of scurrying guitar lines while she belts with enough grit to rival Cruz herself.” - The New York Times. Annie O is welcoming Angelique back to Standard Sounds at TOTS, on April 16.
