DAILY
24/7 Projection featuring Mika Rottenberg

The question of labor and the exploitations of women's bodies lie at the heart of Rottenberg's humorous video installations.  In Mary's Cherries, three female wrestlers perform a series of bodily actions in small claustrophobic chambers on successive floors.  Two women rapidly pedal exercise bikes to power a UV light that promotes the growth of red fingernails.  Each nail is carefully cut and dropped through a hole in the floor where another laborer massages and rubs it, softening it so that when the fingernail is passed to the next laborer it is easily transformed into a sticky maraschino cherry.

SATURDAYS
Ping Pong
The Standard crew would love to engage you in a spirited game of Ping Pong!

aka Table Tennis: a sport in which two or four players hit a lightweight, hollow ball back and forth with rackets.  The game takes place on a hard table divided by a net.  Except for the initial serve, players must allow a ball played toward them only one bounce on their side of the table and must return it so that it bounces on the opposite side.  Points are scored when a player fails to return the ball within the rules.  Play is fast and demands quick reactions...whew, got all that?

Dust off your paddles
and perfect that backspin...prizes, respect and glory can all be yours for the taking!  Time to hop on by, grab a drink and get ready to be paddled.

AUGUST
The Box featuring Mattia Biagi

Mattia Biagi's idea of the TAR collection was born during a visit to the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles.  Entranced by the texture of the mysterious tar bubbling up from the ground, he dipped his shoe into the tar and then saw the juxtoposition of ancient and modern life in a moment of epiphany.  Biagi's TAR collection transforms the familiar into the surreal.  The darkness that covers these iconic objects immortalizes and connects them to a unique concept of aesthetic beauty.

JULY 1ST
Wainwright
Born in Warrington, England, a small working class town outside of Liverpool, but as a young boy, he relocated to St. Catharine, Ontario.  Michael Wainwright's music combines the raw Northern English sound of his childhood with the stark purity of Canadian singer songwriters like Neil Young. His unique voice and universal writing combine to make powerful and personal, yet commercial songs that play equally to the heart and feet. In 2007, he hooked up with Los Angeles producer Charlton Pettus and started recording what evolved into his debut release. As the songs emerged recognition followed. Legendary graphic artist Alan Aldridge signed on to do the cover art and Directo Ben Gourley chose three of his songs for the movie "Moving McAllister".  With the release of "Michael Wainwright" on Town Records, the word is spreading...
