Robert Mapplethorpe's XYZ Portfolio is exhibit A in the transformation of photography from a craft into a respected art form over the past 30 years. Rarely seen in its entirety, it gave birth to a new era of art and equality and remains just as bracing today as it was back then.

In addition to the photos, check out the projection that was shown on the exterior wall of the Corcoran Gallery in June 1989 to protest its shuttering of the Mapplethorpe retrospective, The Perfect Moment.

We watched her film, Venus and Serena, at the Miami International Film Festival. Now, a fully recovered Serena Williams is back in Miami to compete in the Sony Tennis Open's first weekend. We look forward to seeing her on the court this Thursday, March 21st.
