Announcing the Winners of our Short Story Contest

A little while back, we asked you to write us a short story. The only rules were that it needed to be 1,000-words long and inspired by the final days of summer. And write you sure did—so many of you did—with elegance, wit, and "the heat inside you,” as Thoreau famously put it. In fact, because so many of your submissions were so exceptionally good, we decided that, in addition to our five winners, we would publish the five runners-up as well.

And who are our winners? Quite an interesting mix from around the world, it turns out. Our grand prize winner, Simon Kearns, is an Irish novelist living in the South of France. You can read more about him and the other winners in the Glossi book below.

Thanks to all of you who submitted so many wonderful stories!

And a very special thanks to our judges: Lorin Stein, Editor of The Paris Review, Jakab Orsos, Director of PEN American Center’s World Voices Festival of Literature. and Hettie Jones, New School Professor, and author of How I Became Hettie Jones, a memoir of the “Beat Scene” of the 50s & 60s.

Now, without further ado, our Dog Days of Summer Short Story Collection, a warm respite from the coming winter freeze …
