London - London Head Sommelier

      At the heart of our hotels are of course our people who through their vibrancy and energy bring our properties to life. We are now seeking a team of diverse and dynamic individuals that will capture the very essence of the Standard London to join our team as a Head Sommelier.

      Your role

      As our Head Sommelier at the Standard, London you will oversee and manage our wine offering across all of our restaurants and bars; which include high-volume all-day dining, late night lounge, busy cocktail bar and grill, garden and roof terraces, plus our exclusive destination restaurant on our top floor

      Your specialist wine knowledge will support a team of outlet managers; and although you will have a team of Sommelier to support service your role will principally be operational. In addition to the sourcing of wines for our wine list and management of our cellar you will be passionate about training in order to develop a knowledgeable team skilled in all aspects of food and wine matching, upselling and the seamless service of wine.

      Most importantly you will ensure you and your team provide the ultimate in guest experience with a touch of theatre, that is anything but Standard! so you will need to be highly social, upbeat and friendly; confident and can handle pressure well; thrive in a high volume, high energy environment and can manage both employees and guest with ease.

      Do you have what it takes to be a Head Sommelier at The Standard.

      While we take every detail of design and guest experience seriously, we do not take ourselves too seriously. ‘Standard People’ are at the heart of our brand; vivid, dynamic and engaging. You’ll intrinsically understand the unique microcosm and the context of our venues and city you represent.

      While prior experience as a Head Sommelier will be useful all are welcome at the Standard; you will have an uncompromised and natural flair for service and be able to build genuine relationships with guests that enable us to not only preempt needs but foresee desires. In addition to this you will also need….

       You must be able to demonstrate the following:

      • Educated to a minimum level of WSET Diploma or equivalent
      • A proven track record in a Head Sommelier or Wine Manager role with the ability to inspire and motivate, ideally gained in a similar 'Lifestyle', multi-site destination restaurant or boutique hotel sector
      • Highly motivated and pro-active; act with professionalism and positivity in all interactions
      • Experience across a range of management disciplines including wine & cellar management
      • Ability to develop and deliver effective training to maintain consistent service standards throughout your team
      • Opening experience preferred
      • Experience with squirrel POS, open table and Fourth HR
